HTC using decoys to throw us off the track; real HTC One (M9) has changes to BoomSound and more

HTC using decoys to throw us off the track; real HTC One (M9) has changes to BoomSound and moreWe have seen a number of photos showing what has been characterized as a prototype HTC One (M9). As we pointed out, there were a few changes when compared to the HTC One (M8). But a report published on Saturday says that the HTC One (M9) units that have been making the rounds in photographs are decoys and "do not accurately represent the final design of the HTC One (M9)." The report adds that these decoys do have the correct internal parts for the HTC One (M9).

This news should bring hope to those who were criticizing HTC for using the same design employed for the HTC One (M8) for its new flagship model. According to those who know the real look of the HTC One (M9), it will feature an edge-to-edge screen with BoomSound slits (as opposed to the grills) on the top and bottom edges of the handset. The front-facing camera looks like the one used on the HTC Desire 826, which means the One (M9) has a large circular lens above the screen.

The report adds that HTC had used a decoy before introducing the HTC One (M7). However, a rendering of the phone was discovered in a early version of the phone's firmware, on a SIM card installation tutorial. The image of the handset was leaked out more than a month before the unit was officially revealed by HTC.

We should see the HTC One (M9) in the flesh when MWC opens in Barcelona on March 1st.
