Samsung reportedly sold 50,000 units of the Tizen-based Z1 10 days after launch

Samsung has reportedly sold 50,000 units of the Z1 in India only 10 days after launch. This is in stark contrast to an earlier report that said that the phone hadn’t been too well-received in the country, though we’re guessing the sales figure isn’t that far-fetched given the relatively low price of the Z1 (at least when compared to Samsung’s own offerings). “The sales volume of the Z1 exceeded our expectations,”
said Asim Warsi, vice president of Mobile and Information Technology at Samsung India. “I think that the new model widened consumer choice in terms of prices and product performance.” Our experience has been pretty positive as far as the phone’s performance is concerned, and it’s possible consumers in India were attracted by the same while trying out the Z1 in stores before making a purchase. Samsung is manufacturing the Z1 entirely in India, and offers a slew of exclusive local content to sweeten the deal. Whether the Tizen-powered handset is a success is something only time will tell; we’ll be publishing our full review of the Z1 this week, and in the meantime, you can check out our hands-on impressions of the device
