IOS 9 Compatibility : Which devices support IOS 9

After releasing iOS 8 in September 2014, Apple is now ready to release the next iOS version, the iOS 9. We’ve covered the rumors on the specs and the release date of iOS 9. You can read that article here.
In this article, we’ll give a look at the devices that iOS 9 will support. In the absence of official words from Apple, our only bet is speculations. Before we put down a list of devices that iOS 9 will support, let’s bring some pinches of history; let’s see the list of supported devices for iOS 8.
After much ado, iOS 8 was finally released by
Apple for a number of devices; the list includes iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, iPod Touch 5th Generation, iPad 2, iPad with Retina Display, iPad Air, iPad Mini, iPad Mini with Retina Display. iPhone 4 was the only device that was officially discarded. In the same way, few devices will be scraped off from the list of devices which will get iOS 9 update. We don’t know which devices yet, but we can make a guess based on the rumors that are at hand. The rumors suggest iPad 2 and iPhone 4S, iPad with Retina Display, iPod Touch 5th Generation, iPad Mini and iPad Mini with Retina Display will be the unlucky ones as they won’t get the iOS 9 update.

List of iOS 9 Supported(compatibility) Device

  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 5S
  • iPhone 5C
  • iPhone 5
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad Air
  • iPad 4
  • iPad 3
  • iPad Mini 3
  • iPad Mini 2
  • Those who use the devices mentioned above, might find it difficult to swallow, but it’d be the case if the rumor turns true. Another worrisome rumor is once a user upgrades his iOS 9 compatible device to iOS 9 from iOS 8, it won’t be possible for him to downgrade. To be on the safer side, you should take a backup of your files and folders before upgrading, because there won’t be any turning back.
Apple is currently all set to release its next flagship iPhone. Some believe it will be iPhone 7 while others held the phone will be called iPhone 6S. Some rumors indicate the phone will arrive with a quadrupled RAM. This rumor insinuates iOS 9 will have some outlandish functionality which may not be supported by ordinary and older iPhones. We are allowed to think this way because hardware upgrades indicate additional functionality of the operating system. But if iPhone 6S is a likely candidate of iOS 9, then further iOS 9 updates may not be possible to download on even trendy devices such as iPhone 5 or iPhone 5S.
iOS 9 is almost a year away and riding on wild speculations may be risky at this moment. We have the initial list of devices, which reportedly won’t get iOS 9 update. Next we need to wait till we get close to the release of iOS 9 because by then, the rumors will open up along with occasional leaks and insider reports, helping us avoiding far-fetched speculations and stay completely grounded.
